Ah a return to blogging...

It's been a while! I'm sorry, blogger. I didn't forget about you, really.

Before coming back, I went and reread everything I had posted.

Too foolish, I guess.

My life, well, I'm not too sure about that. I'm where I want to be, doing what I want to be doing. But the future, well, it doesn't look the way it used to, in my head. A lot of changes happened. Some days, I think I might pack it all in and move to Africa. Some days, I think I might just accidentally pedal into traffic. Some days, I think about school, and NASA, and the ISS. Some days, I think about a house in the midwest in the country and a garden and children and sunflowers.

So I don't know, really.

Let me tell you about one of my dreams.

I don't think I've ever told anyone this before. I guess that makes it postsecret worthy.

One of my dreams is to work in a dessert shop. I would be a dessert chef. I would spend all my days making lavender macaroons, chocolate souffle, bonbons, truffles, pies, tarts, and fancy custards. People would line up and ooh and ahh at the windows, where I would set things out in enticing displays like in Chocolat.

Except it's more than just chocolate. It's how strawberries glisten with a honey glaze on a tart, and how blueberries look when they are piled up in a bowl. When you brown the top of a meringue or put chocolate curls and pralines just so to decorate a slice of cake, I want that. I want all of that.

In my dream I get to pour out chocolate on a marble slab. I get to squeeze frosting and creme filling from a paper cone. Layer cakes with gooey caramel. I get to put all these things in my hands every day, and then feed them to people hungry for something sweet.

I get to make somebody's mouth really happy.

It wouldn't have to be my own shop, though that would be nice. But if I could get up every day with the knowledge that I would soon be up to my elbows in flour and coconut flakes, I think I could be very happy. It wouldn't even have to be in a shop. If I could do this in my home, if I could have the time and the freedom and the love to pour into these things, if I could just spend all my time making beautiful delicious things for my friends and neighbors and strangers I meet on the street, I could be very happy.

That's one of my dreams. There are more. There are always, always, always more.

I saw Sherman Alexie speak last night. He signed my poster and wore a blue velvet suit. Scrabble and songs sent me home to sleep under sheets damp from a dryer that never seems to work properly. Today my boss remarked to me that Sherman was much more energetic than the last time he visited... that "something must have happened to him".

I wonder if he was as multi-ethnically offensive and awesome the last time around.

The best part for me was two-fold... One, the reactions of people around me, particularly the girl who sat in front of me and laughed so happily at everything. Two, the way that every meandering tangent came squarely back, how with one phrase you suddenly remembered that you weren't really talking about terrorists and cannibalism and liberals, but about the Oprah show. He was a stellar speaker.

Today is a very horizontal stripes and knits day. I feel cozy and fashionable, and comfortable in myself. Maybe I'm suddenly more self-aware, or maybe I'm paying more attention to what makes me feel ok, but I'm less and less worried about my appearance. It's been going on for several months, but I recognized a "win" point today, as I am wearing a dress that I have owned for years but never ever ever wore, because I didn't like the way my butt looked in it. My body has not changed since a year ago, must less a few years ago. My mind has.

I'm wearing it today without a second thought. That would not happen to the me of last year.

It's a little after 1 pm, and I'm in the window, naked. I'm imagining myself to be a small round cat.

Today I gathered up all of Andrew's blankets, the books of his that I was reading, and put them all back in his house. All gone, all his again. Removed myself from his room, from his house, from his street.
I came home and nourished myself on a delicious taco and delicious guava nectar, pure liquid fruit and sugar. And corn syrup, which is in absolutely everything. Took a long shower, and cleaned myself. Shaved my arms, legs, stomach, back, neck, face, shoulders, sides, feet, hands, toes.
Upstairs, lotion. Coconuts, limes, and Q10plus.

There are clothes and books and nonsense all over the floor. It will be ignored for now, for a nap or maybe just a good sit. I'm not really all that tired. Perestroika is a revolution. Fashion is in the wind. Distributed by Vilore Foods Company.

In seven weeks, school will be over and done with me.

That's good and horrible. I think I'm ready for a change.

That's it. That's the last things I've had attaching me to Andy, the last physical things... apart from letters I've saved, a shirt in my closet... I'm not looking at them. I'm trying to remember that I won't be hearing from him. His good advice, and his voice and his compass in my life. I'm trying to think all those things on my own as best I can.

I don't feel very happy lately. But that's ok. I was thinking about Mike, and rationalization, and emotion, and being a stupid idiot like I am sometimes, and about positive vibes and good karma. Let's cultivate that, all of us...

Last night was a night for strip-mall tea houses and honey-dipped strawberries in late-night cafes. We photographed ourselves young and jubilant, high on each-other's company.

Lauren bought me a Happy Pill Bath Bomb from LUSH. I've said it before, I'll say it again: I LOVE LUSH. I spent the morning thumbing through the advertising magazine she so thoughtfully included, I have now planned a trip to the nearest LUSH mecca (In the Mall, unfortunately) to see if Curly Wurly or Trichomania is the thing for me.

Hooray for girltalk and sweets and temporary tattoos and birthdays and tears and glowing faces. Hooray for Jesus as a pop-icon and for fat paper journals, for shame and sorrow and Grolsch bottles and British car shows and for classy bags and classy ladies.

Hooray for the fact that waiting for delicious cheesecake, and then finally eating delicious cheesecake, makes me jump up and down like a five-year-old.

Hey, you want to make some really really happy? Write to them.

I got a letter in the mail today, and it was like I was holding a little bulb of happy inside my ribs the whole time I was reading it. Not because of anything in particular in the letter, but because someone took the time to write to me and give me a surprise in the mail.

Even though email isn't the same, it's still a way to give out a friendly bit of news. I sent one just today to a professor today, she immediately responded, telling me that I had "made her day" just from the things I had to say.

So everybody go send something along... nothing serious, mind you! Something friendly, and happy. Remind your friend of a fun time you had, or tell your grandma how much you like her homemade granola or curry. You don't have to be fancy, or eloquent. Just pleasant.

DO IT!

It was all good. Put an end to a few thoughts I was having, gave me a bunch of things to think/worry about. My brain feels like the food I ate: a bunch of pieces all ordered, then suddenly all stirred together by an inexpert hand.

Here we are, covered in snow.

I got an A/A- on my final philosophy paper, and the note "this would be a good choice for a thesis, hint-hint". Horribly, that made me want to consider the major all over again. It was a rough decision to quit, and it's still rough: I realize that I'm the type of person who needs to be busy all the time, needs to have a lot of pressure and daily expectations in order to function.

Philosophy gives me that. But is it worth it? Is it worth the stress that I know will be raining down on my head? Will I sell parts of my happiness, just because I think I might be unhappy if I miss out on the end of philosophy?

I'm having coffee with a major today. We'll talk.

Let me see... since I've been Home, I've inherited a new phone that I cannot figure out, and started a large painting project that needs to be completed within the next few days. At home, I am completely detached from School Life -- everything seems to fade away as I putter around the House.

You want to know what is ridiculous? Fake fingernails, that is what is ridiculous.

It's 3 am, and I'm listening to Melon Kinebi while writing up a info sheet for a movie we're going to make.

I had 4.5 cups of coffee over the course of the evening, I watched Golden Compass and Star Trek Generations, I made Kirk jokes and plotted a script and kicked over the champagne remains of another day. I slept on someone else's floor for 2 hours and crawled to class with an aching back and a map of golden days in my bag, it snowed last night but the wind didn't blow.

Oh, what can I say! It's time to twitch myself to sleep.

Well, I was digging around in hopes of finding something to post for today, and I came up with this... a nifty enough piece. It's from fotodec on LJ, long time ago.

Tonight is a night for writing a few philosophy papers with frozen feet, then walking to find a bucket of sugar that I left on campus. Returning home, I will bundle up in bed and quietly intoxicate myself, laughing at the frost and perhaps a movie or two.

Brought up blogging in French. I love my french professor and the girls in the class, they're absolutely the tops.

Julene gave me two packets of chocolate chai tea back in the beginning of the semester. Now that my house is clean, I feel I ought to locate two nice mugs and have her over for a cuppa and some croissants. Perhaps we will curl our hair and laugh.

Edit: This book I'm using is a reader's digest condensed double-novel book... this page was all about some lady trapped on an island or a base, completely wigging out and heroine-struggle weeping as she tries to radio for help, and then in the end, they answer the radio and she faints. I read it as I was crossing it out, and all I felt was apathetic towards her plight. Also, the next page had been torn out a long time ago.

I'm vair vair cold, and vair vair bored out of my mind, plodding through my English Paper, which is being written by a prig in pants [me]. Bubble bubble, toil and PANTS. I am pretending to be Ben Franklin getting all pokey-fun at Jonathan Edwards, which isn't too difficult... if only I could CONCENTRATE FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS AT A TIME.

Anyways, enjoy your Elephant Graveyard of Etruscan Millinery. Those are supposed to be tusks, but I only had a Big Brush to work with, and everything looks different in the light of the telly.

Last year I studied Fairy Tales for a french class. Mostly, the point was that in the olden days, children got eaten more often than not. Usually to put the fear of God in people.

I need to be more efficient in my life. When I started this, I thought "Ok, if I can just take 15 minutes to scan, upload, and post, that is some sort of consistency." But I need to make more pages. Also, inconsistency is suddenly the rule of the day.

Hecate is the goddess of the wilderness and of childbirth, the "Queen of Ghosts". She's a witch, basically. Wicca, and all that. Ribon no Kishi, and all that.

Anyways, back to the wolf. There are a lot of bad influences, people saying untrue things. Maybe, the worse influence is when they change your actions, instead of just your beliefs.

Sometimes we're all idiots.

Boys, you know? It's always boys. Even if they're good, they're still boys, guys, men, etc. I did a lot of growing up with and because of boys.

A day late and a dollar short, that's me.

I'm living off campus, with no internet. I'm sad, living off campus. I miss the dorms. This is more like living at home, what with having to remember if I bought food, or fed the cat, or infringed on the individual rights and privacy of the people I live with.

There is less privacy. Less community.

Part of me wishes most severely that I was back living on campus in a nice upper-classmen dorm.

But the other part of me realizes that this lonliness and separation is inevitable unpon graduation, and learning this one year early, with the benefit of my friends still being within walking distance, is its own sort of boon.

And speaking of laudanum, there is nothing classier than drinking your breakfast tea out of a used jelly jar. I myself prefer Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey. My jelly jar is Mason.

This doesn't feel complete to me. But vampires are old news, if you ask me. I may have fallen for the zombie subculture, but you can take your Vampire invites and stick 'em where the sun don't shine.

The teddy bears had a bible verse on the back. I'm pretty sure that taking orders is the thing to do when the world has slighted you in the face. Or bitten you in the neck. The important thing is that you stick with it until either Whoopie Goldberg or Dr. House sets you free.

At least, that is what the movies tell me.

P.S. I got paid today. I want to buy a new and better camera, or perhaps a proper bed for my house. But something tells me I shall be paying rent instead.

The Pope, hey.
My favorite pope of all time is Pope Patrick. He is fictional. But his fiction is largely responsible for me finally realizing that I do believe in God.

I believe in DIY because I hate people who are excessively lazy in their day-to-day lives. If you are not putting any effort into your life, how are you getting any real enjoyment from it?
Besides, if you shluff off important jobs such as murder onto someone else [ie a hitman], you are essentially giving away the opportunity to prevent major fuckups in your own life, not to mention, it is very expensive.
